What Is OBNC?
The vision behind OBNC is deeply inspired by N. K. Kurian, the Managing Director of Mango Meadows. A passionate environmentalist and agricultural entrepreneur, Kurian has played a pivotal role in shaping OBNC’s philosophy and direction. His lifelong commitment to sustainable farming, native biodiversity, and ecological restoration laid the foundation for OBNC’s mission. Under his guidance, the organisation has grown from an idea into a meaningful movement for nature.
At its heart, OBNC believes every patch of earth holds potential. Where others see wasteland, OBNC sees opportunity. Through careful planning, scientific planting methods, and community participation, the trust converts unused spaces into living landscapes filled with indigenous trees, plants, and wildlife.
As a trust, OBNC works not for profit, but for purpose. Its activities are rooted in transparency, environmental responsibility, and long-term sustainability. The organisation actively collaborates with local communities, government bodies, and like-minded partners to promote biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.

An Initiative From Mango Meadows
Developing bio-diversity parks across the nation
N. K. Kurian, a passionate environmentalist and agricultural entrepreneur, has played a pivotal role in shaping OBNC’s philosophy and direction. He converted farmland into India’s first man-made agricultural and bio-diversity park and populated it with a massive 4800 species of plants, trees and shrubs - which is equivalent to almost all the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats mountain chain of India. Spread over 30 acres of Land in Kottyam District in Kerala State, it has earned a distinction as the first-of-its-kind Agricultural Theme Park in the world (as per Limca Book of Records & URF World Records)!
N.K. Kurian has initiated discussions with various State and Central Governments on the need for the development of bio-diversity parks as a part of conserving the bio-diversity of each unique region of the country. He has offered his expertise and willingness to transfer knowledge and skills gathered in the process of building such parks. Through this process, the various species and bio-diversity of each region of the country can be preserved to a large extent. N.K.Kurian has acquired the experience and expertise to support such an effort by various States and the Government of India.
Statue of Parashurama

About the statue
The height of the statue is about 30 feet. Parashurama is the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. He is one of the chiranjeevis (immortal) of Hinduism and is believed to have lived during the Treta Yuga and Dvapara Yuga. He is also known as the father of Kalarippayattu.
We Have A Plan To Keep Nature Safe
N.K. Kurian's approach emphasizes the importance of making the best use of various types of land—whether it be marginal or barren land (referred to as "tarishubhumikal"), privately owned land, or even government land that is currently lying unused. He advocates for using CSR funds, designated by the government for developmental projects, to implement comprehensive strategies for biodiversity conservation in these regions.
By leveraging these funds, the goal is to transform otherwise unproductive land into biodiversity parks or conservation zones, helping to protect and maintain the local flora and fauna. This strategy is not only a way to repurpose idle land but also to restore ecosystems that are crucial for maintaining environmental balance. The use of CSR funds would ensure that sufficient financial resources are directed towards activities such as reforestation, habitat restoration, and the protection of endangered species, all of which are critical to preserving the biodiversity of each region.
This approach also aligns with broader conservation goals, ensuring that biodiversity conservation is integrated into land management strategies across the country. It represents a proactive step towards sustainable development, where otherwise neglected lands can serve as important hubs for ecological preservation and environmental education, benefiting both nature and local communities.
How We Work
Since 1987, Organization of Bio Diversity and Nature Conservation has combined fieldwork with innovations in science, policy and finance to secure the critical benefits that nature provides to humanity.
