Fighting to protect nature for people

About OBNC

N.K. Kurian, is a Civil Engineer by training who has a deep and abiding love for nature and traditional farming. He converted farmland into India’s first man-made agricultural and bio-diversity park and populated it with a massive 4800 species of plants, trees and shrubs - which is equivalent to almost all the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats mountain chain of India. Spread over 30 acres of Land in Kottyam District in Kerala State, it has earned a distinction as the first-of-its-kind Agricultural Theme Park in the world (as per Limca Book of Records & URF World Records)!

N.K. Kurian has initiated discussions with various State and Central Governments on the need for the development of bio-diversity parks as a part of conserving the bio-diversity of each unique region of the country. He has offered his expertise and willingness to transfer knowledge and skills gathered in the process of building such parks. Through this process, the various species and bio-diversity of each region of the country can be preserved to a large extent. N.K.Kurian has acquired the experience and expertise to support such an effort by various States and the Government of India.

Vision

To become a pioneering force in biodiversity conservation by cultivating and preserving native plant species to restoring ecological balance. We aim to convert wastelands into thriving ecosystems, contributing to environmental stability, and ensuring rich biodiversity.

Mission

Our mission is to promote biodiversity through the careful planning, collection, and cultivation of indigenous plant species across India. By working closely with communities, governments, and organizations, we aim to transform idle wastelands into flourishing ecosystems.

Objective

OBNC, established in 2003 as a non-profit trust, focuses on conserving and enhancing biodiversity across India's state-owned and corporate wastelands, which are currently idle and becoming increasingly unusable. OBNC acquires land in various states for non-profit afforestation projects, contributing to the unique biodiversity of each region. This initiative is promoted by the creator of Mango Meadows Agricultural Theme Park, renowned as the world's most biodiverse park in a compact area. Under the leadership of Shri. N.K. Kurian, the world's first agricultural theme park was founded, driven by a deep commitment to biodiversity conservation in response to the rising global temperatures, the massive environmental damage caused, and the alarming reduction of Earth's biodiversity.

Method

The Trust secures funding for its biodiversity conservation efforts through public donations, contributions from individuals interested in its cause, and the strategic use of corporate CSR funds. Additionally, OBNC seeks support from government and semi-government institutions, utilizing these resources to further its mission of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
